Advancing LED Lighting in Public Housing and Private Residential Towers in Ontario

Lightsavers Canada, in collaboration with Toronto Community Housing and HSCorp, present a one day conference that brings together best in practice case studies, technology information, hands-on product review and financing options to facilitate understanding of LED outdoor and indoor applications in social housing, but with further applicability to privately owned residential towers across southern Ontario.

The housing sector has been a leader in investing in sustainable practices and is currently investigating LED Lighting, which will reduce electricity use by 50-70% and improve safety with its higher quality whiter light. Lighting, which comprises a significant portion of electricity costs, presents an excellent opportunity to gain the triple benefit of reduced electricity costs, reduced maintenance costs, and reduced green house gas emissions.

Barriers exist, however, including understanding the technical aspects of this new and evolving technology, how to test and report its performance attributes, procure quality luminaire products, build a compelling business case, and finance the initial capital cost.

Topics to be presented and discussed include:

  • LED Technology View and Standards: update on indoor and outdoor applications
  • Case Studies including LED Scale-up lessons from parking garage, parking lots, pathways, and indoor applications
  • Business Case Barriers and Solutions
  • Financing Options
