AGOKWE by Waawaate Fobister

February 23, 2013

$25

The Agokwe Collective presents a story of love, sexuality and the Anishinabe traditions. Agokwe (pronounced a-goo-kway; meaning “wise woman” or “Two-Spirited”) is a visually stunning and emotionally provocative production.

Agokwe is a contemporary, tragic love story about two star-crossed Anishinabe boys from neighbouring reserves. Courageous, honest and wildly humorous, this multi award-winning one-man show addresses the consequence of bullying, homophobia, social isolation and a community struggling to reclaim it’s lost traditions.

Directed/Dramturged by multiple award winning Director Ed Roy, and written and performed by the award winning Waawaate Fobister, this production won 6 Dora Mavor Moore Theatre Awards in 2009 Including: Outstanding New Play, Production of a Play, Direction, Performance, Costume, and Lighting.
