November 8, 2014 @ 8:00 pm - 11:30 pm
$50Be it advocating for equal rights, recording the rich heritage of a community or performing centre stage, an illustrious group of Black women past and present have stood at the vanguard of activism and mentorship.
Archie Alleyne presents An Evening with Jackie Richardson; Black Women Effecting Change highlights the achievements of a unique blend of Black women whose accomplishments have effected positive change within Canada and beyond. Among the extraordinary Black women highlighted are the late actress/activist Kay Livingstone as well as the indefatigable writer/researcher Rella Braithwaite. Few stars shine as bright as blueswomen extraordinaire Salome Bey and Jodie Drake. On stage and off, the impact of Bey and Drake will be felt for generations.
Backed by the Evolution of Jazz Ensemble and with performances by vocalists Aijia Waite and Kamil Andre Dewhurst, the incomparable Jackie Richardson spends an evening celebrating in song and story anecdotes about Black women who have effected change in her life and career.
