Comfort
November 24, 2016
$15 – $28
Presented by Red Snow Collective
Red Snow Collective presents the world premiere of Comfort, written by Diana Tso and directed by William Yong. Comfort is a love story about two youths in Nanjing, China, who find joy and friendship in their shared passion for opera, which later become precious in their survival together at a comfort house in Shanghai.
Over 200,000 girls and women across Asia were forced into sexual slavery by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II and were referred to as comfort women. Comfort explores the meaning of comfort in war time, celebrates the resilience of women and is a declaration of the power of art to heal and find change.
The cast of Comfort features Vania Chan, Phoebe Hu, Jen Hum, Vicki Kim, Oliver Koomsatira, Timothy Ng and Jeff Yung, with an original score by Constantine Caravassilis, performed live by Patty Chan, Cathy Nosaty, Brandon Valdivia. Scenic design is by William Yong, set design is by Rebecca Picherack, and costume design is by Erika Chong.
