Faces In Between

February 1, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

FREE

Join the 3MW Collective as they celebrate the Opening Reception of a new gallery exhibit that will be displayed on the second floor of Daniels Spectrum.

3MW is a group of three mixed-race women artists using portraiture in both painting and photography to address ideas of mixed-race identity.

The subjects in their work are people who have parents, grandparents, and ancestors from different cultural backgrounds. The faces of these “models” do not conform to society’s outdated notions of human classification. These faces are loaded with issues of colonialism, racism, shadeism, as well as questions of history and identity.

In that spirit, we invite you to look at the work and engage in a discussion about mixed-race identity, race as a construct in and of itself and a future where outdated notions of human classification could be relic of the past.
