In Conversation with Donisha Prendergast

June 28, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

FREE

Artscape and Manifesto, in partnership with The Ada Slaight Youth Arts Mentorship Program, present In Conversation with Donisha Prendergast. The granddaughter of the legendary Rita and Bob Marley, Donisha is an accomplished actor who has had a wide range of leading roles in several theatrical stage productions, a documentary filmmaker, and an activist committed to service and doing positive work in the community. She has also spoken with heart as a past member of the Africa Unite Youth Symposium in Ethiopia, Ghana, South Africa, and Jamaica. Her recent film RasTa: A Soul’s Journey, is a feature-length documentary directed by Stuart Samuels that centres on the exploration of Rastafari, the inspiration for Bob Marley’s music and message, and Donisha’s own desire to dispel any misconceptions about the world of Rastafari. Donisha is also a founding and active team member of Manifesto Toronto’s sister organization Manifesto Jamaica.

Moderated by Quentin VerCetty, the talk is the second of a three part partnership with Artspace of Manifesto’s “In Conversation with…” series, and will offer an opportunity to the young people of Regent Park as well as other diverse communities across the GTA to come to Daniels Spectrum and engage with Donisha about her work as an artist working for social change.

Manifesto’s “In Conversation with…” is an ongoing series that presents unique one on one conversations with people the organization and its community share reverence for. It offers a rare opportunity to go beyond the quotes and one of a kind performances to facilitate intimate and interactive dialogues with artists, activists, and public figures that offer a perspective that embodies the spirit and values of Manifesto. To date, the series has featured the likes of Bobbito Garcia, Ernie Paniccioli, Roy Ayers, Saul Williams, DJ Renegade, Kevin Powell, and most recently, Joey Bada$$.
