Ismat Apa Ke Naam

October 5, 2012 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Based on a collection of short stories by famed Urdu writer Ismat Chughtai (1915-1991), the play consists of three monologues. “Gharwali” told by Naseeruddin Shah, is a heady satire of the institution of and the social mores of 1940s India. “Chhui Muee” told by Heeba Shah (Nasseruddin’s real-life daughter), is a tribute to the power of the rural woman, a depiction of two very contrasting stories of pregnancy and childbirth. “Mughal Bachcha” told by Ratna Pathak Shah (Naseeruddin’s real-life wife), tells a powerful love story set against the backdrop of the faded glory of the great Mughal Empire in the time of the British Raj.
