Daniels Spectrum will celebrate the 2015 Pan American Games with an opening reception for two group art exhibitions featuring twenty local and international contemporary artists: Between Spheres and SOMOS: A Latin American-Canadian Exhibition.
The Opening Reception for this dual exhibition will be held at Daniels Spectrum on Friday July 17th from 6-10pm. Free refreshments will be provided by Show Love Cafe. Cash Bar.
The exhibitions are open to the public daily (Mon–Fri 8 am – 9pm, Sat–Sun 10am – 6pm) from July 18 – August 31, 2015.
Curated by Pamela Edmonds and Magdalyn Asimakis, Between Spheres opens in conjunction with the games and presents the work of ten artists who explore issues of identity, human relationships, place and movement through the use of balls, spheres and cyclical objects. This concept is rooted in the early use of the rubber ball, an object that was engaged with various aspects of life from the time of its invention in 1600 BC. An early contribution to sport in the Americas, this was an object that also represented life cycles, and was engaged with astrology, warfare, and human sacrifice.
In SOMOS: A Latin American-Canadian exhibition, the Toronto based duo Clandestinos unite ten Latin American-Canadian Artists in an affirmation of Pan-American culture and a celebration of its diverse roots and heritage. Each artist has been invited to explore their own relationship and experience of the Latin American-Canadian diaspora.
