Toronto Storytelling Festival – Opening Night – Day 1

The Toronto Storytelling Festival celebrates its 35th anniversary from March 21 – 24 at Daniels Spectrum, in the heart of Regent Park. With guest tellers from across Canada, the USA, and Germany, the festival also welcomes tellers from Regent Park schools and community programs to a special stage running on March 23-24. Special programs include Grimm Remix, stories celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Grimm brothers fairytale book; The Women, with stories about women in myth, legend, and history; Lives of the Storytellers, exploring how storytelling and life are connected. Metis and First Nations Stories, with Ron Evans, Louis Bird, and Gayle Ross. Dan Yashinsky, who founded the festival in 1979, has returned to direct this year’s celebration.

March 21 – Day 1 Schedule

 

Part 1 – 7:30PM Touching Canada: A performance by great American storyteller Jay O’Callahan

Part 2 – 9:00PM – Alec Gelcer Memorial Concert. Because God Loves Stories: Featuring Sandra Shamas, one of Canada’s funniest and most moving performers, with music by great Jazz/Klezmer guitarist Brian Katz.

There will be an intermission – Paintbox cafe will be serving snacks, beer/wine and coffee.

Audience: Adult

 

 

Regent Park Reisdents : Regent Park residents can recieve free tickets by contacting Regent Park Neighbourhood Inititative at debra@rpni.ca. There will be 30 tickets reserved for RPNI per evening concert.
